Shields? Has any research been done on those?

Hunt asked if there was a better shield than a wooden one. I told him I thought that others were.

Has anyone tested the defense given by shields and which shield has the highest defense?

How many different type of shields are there (and what are they)?

Do shields affect balance, that is does it reduce your swings?

Do shields only work for front attacking creatures and not those that are attacking you from behind?

I looked for a shield reference in the index but could find none.
