Items
General Items[edit]
Items available and usable by all classes of exiles are available from various NPC sellers throughout the land and other exiles that have trained to make item by studying a profession. While all weapons are usable by all classes, only fighters can effectively use more effective weapons due to training only offered to fighters. Aside from those, there are some items that are considered essential because they unlock abilities to interact with others and the environment. The most important items are listed below.
Sunstones[edit]
A sunstone is used by equipping it. The sunstone sits on the exile’s forehead between their eyes — forming what could be considered a third eye. A basic or worn sunstone can be used to think to everyone wearing a sunstone via the /think command or to one specific exile via /thinkto command. Sunstones vary in quality and wear from finest quality to lowest quality until they wear out completely and break.
Sunstones in order of quality and ranked from highest to lowest are: | ||
---|---|---|
Quality | Abilities (cumulative) | Wear Level |
Sungem | /thinkgroup to custom groups | 0 |
Suncrystal | /thinkclan (to clan members) | 1 |
Sunstone | /think global /thinkto 1 exile | 2 |
Worn Sunstone | /think global /thinkto 1 exile | 3 |
Sunpebble | listen to global /think only | * |
*Sunpebbles are not tunable to any other Sunstone type, meant for new players | ||
Broken Sunstone | none | Unrepairable ** |
**Broken Sunstones are useless and can be thrown away |
Sunstone Wear[edit]
Sunstones randomly wear when used to the next level of wear, and are automatically de-equiped without the message being sent when they wear. Wear is very rare, and it can be years between sunstones wearing. It All but the broken sunstone can be retuned by some mystics or an NPC tuned. The cost of tuning a sunstone from a lower level to a higher level of quality varies based on the skill of the tuner, but it is typically in the hundreds of coins. Tuning a sunstone in not a guaranteed success and it has a chance of breaking in the process. In either case, the coins are consumed in the attempt to tune a sunstone. Once a sunstone has been tuned to the maximum of becoming a Sungem, it cannot be tuned further.
- Worn Sunstones should be tunes up at least 1 level to prevent them breaking upon wear.
Chains[edit]
Chains allow players to drag fallen exiles around and between most snells. Chaining requires the exile to /equip Chain in their right hand, and then /used near a fallen exile (usually within 1 exile width) to attempt to chain the fallen. Because of this ability, chains are extremely valuable to recover fallen exiles after a group has many fallen and must retreat. Exiles still alive with a chain can run by an exile while leaving the snell and type /use or activate a macro to chain as many exiles as they can. However, each time a chain is used, it has a chance of breaking, which drops all chained exiles where they were when the chain snapped. Sometimes the chain leaves behind 2 pieces of iron, which can be reforged into a chain at the Puddleby Blacksmith, by Bindra, for 500 coins. However, sometimes only one or no metal is recovered. Because of this there are a few things to be aware of when chaining, including:
- Chains have no levels of wear, and break at random /use attempts
- Training Loovma Geer reduces the chance of breaking — the more Loovma trained, the lower the chance of breaking.
- The odds of breaking are not affected by how many exiles are already being chained
- Many Exiles carry more than one chain in case one breaks, they can re-attempt to chain a fallen to safety
- Chains can break on the first chaining attempt or immediately after a prior chain breaks — this is the nature of true randomness
- It’s recommended to chain while retreating from furthest out to closest to exit instead of the other way to reduce the chance of being trapped while chaining, and also dropping people further away from safety if a chain breaks.
- Most exiles leave at least one slot in their inventory free in case a chain breaks into 2 pieces of metal. Without room for one more item in the inventory, the extra metal will fall to the ground, and potentially be lost.
- Exiles may chain dead creatures to town to be stuffed as a trophy furniture or to the Coliseum so they can be added to the battle roster, if it not already available.
Kudzu[edit]
Kudzu seedlings can be used to form quickly growing barriers between exiles and creatures, and used as a method of “crowd control” to avoid a group taking on too many creatures at once, save an injury party by creating a temporary fort, or to prevent the group from being flanked on one or more sides. To plant a seedling a plater must first equip a free seedling and then using these 2 commands*
- /equip kudzu seedling
- /useitem left
planting one kudzu seedling immediately results in a sprout that impedes an area of about 1/2 an exile and grows into a full sized kudzu bush within seconds. After about 5-10 more seconds, full grown kudzu sprouts another kudzu seedlings next to it in a random direction which takes root and grow until reaching maturity and sprouting another seedling where there is space. Each kudzu bush lasts until killed be damage or starts to brown and die within about 10 minutes. When a kudzu bush dies, there is a chance it leave behind a kudzu seedling.
Kudzu Bags[edit]
Kudzu bags hold up to 10 seedlings allowing exiles to easily carry enough seedling to quickly plant a wall using these 2 commands*
- /equip kudzu seedling
- /useitem left
*Note: There are macros available to plant kudzu using either a quick command or hitting a function key or key combo.
Ethereal Portal Stones[edit]
Colloquially referred to as an “EPS,” an Ethereal Portal Stone allows an exile to open a portal that leads to the Ethereal Plane (EP) if in the physical plane or to Portal Island if they are already in EPS. Because of this ability to open portals next to the exile, EPSes are commonly used as a quick, but potentially dangerous way to get to town quickly, or to evacuate an area if the group is about to fall and rescue would be difficult of not impossible. The EPS is a right-hand item so it is activated by /equip ethereal portal stone and then /use. This mean that an exile cannot fight while opening a portal (but they can re-equip a weapon once the portal opens), and has to either chain fallen after they open the portal or drop (unchain) the fallen exiles, open a portal and then re-chain the fallen to exit with them.
Every time an EPS is activated, it has a chance of breaking upon opening portal. The portal will still open, however without a second EPS, the exile will have to either hope to navigate the Ethereal plane or have another exile open a second portal once inside EP. Because of this powerful ability to rescue a group and get them home without departing, EPSes are usually well over 1000 coins a piece. Although, a mystic that has studied making them can gather a group to escort them to the forge in the Ethereal Plane where the mystic can manufacture more Ethereal Items given the right raw materials. The danger of the Ethereal Plane makes “forge runs” uncommon, which often leads to scarcity of EPSes.
Lastly, a portal will stay open unless closed by a mystic with the training or when the exile who opened it has run out of “departs” that determine how many seconds the portal stays open. So, an exile with 150 departs will open a portal that stays open for 2 minutes and 30 seconds. So, despite exiles losing experience upon a depart, each depart makes a portal last a second more. Because of this phenomena, usually groups prefer exiles that have been around a long time to open portals if an entire group is planning on going through a portal.
General Item List[edit]
The price range or items not bought from NPC vendors will typically change in response to supply and demand. Currently there is an inflationary cycle evident in the economy of Puddleby due to shortages of iron, and the abundance of exiles with thousands of coins. The primary effect is inflating the price of Iron Armor, iron items in general and EPSes.
